Stephanie Velasquez

Stephanie Velasquez is a paralegal at The Harris Law Firm in Colorado. After going through a divorce in 2007, she realized that she wanted to help people through similar situations, so they could avoid as much confusion and heartache as possible. As a talented paralegal with our firm, she can do that and much more.

Fairly early in her paralegal career, Stephanie worked on a case that involved young parents, including a mother who struggled with substance abuse and sometimes abused her children. The young father was desperate to protect his children from further harm, so Stephanie rallied an entire team of legal professionals to file an immediate Motion to Restrict the mother’s parenting time. The court granted the motion and ordered supervised visits for the mother, much to the relief of the father and the children, before full parenting time and decision-making rights were ultimately given to the father. This sensitive and hard-fought case showed Stephanie the true importance of her work and how it could directly protect others from harm and discomfort; she holds on tight to the lessons learned in this case to this day.

Stephanie’s approach to a family law case is built on collaboration and support of the client’s best interests, as well as those of their children if they have any. When tensions are high and parties can’t agree, she uses a straightforward approach to settle nerves and provide honest, reliable answers. Having gone through a divorce herself, she can empathize with and understand any fears or concerns bothering a client and find the clearest way to resolve them. All the while, she stays focused on the strategic planning part of a family law case that requires the collective effort of a talented legal team.

Growing up in Denver, Stephanie attended South High School before going to the University of Denver, where she majored in Political Science. Next, she completed her B.S. in Criminology/Criminal Justice at Metropolitan State College of Denver.

Stephanie and her husband are very involved in their local community and that of the Colorado lowrider community. They belong to the oldest active car club in Denver, Showoff Car Club, own a rare cherry red 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible, and work with community leaders and other local car clubs throughout the year on various community projects. The car club has achieved significant milestones, notably hosting the largest Cinco de Mayo celebrations and parades in the country over the past several years. This remarkable accomplishment reflects Stephanie's dedication to fostering community spirit and engagement. In addition to the annual events, the car club continues to make a positive impact on the community through initiatives such as an Easter egg hunt, a Trunk or Treat event, a Halloween costume donation drive for children throughout the metro area, a Thanksgiving meal drive for families in transition, a Christmas toy drive, as well as a school supply drive.

When she is not working, Stephanie loves to work on her lowrider, read, spend time with her family, and try various forms of art, which includes taking amateur photos of the moon.
