    Erika handles a wide range of divorce, child custody, and other family law matters that require compassionate and experienced guidance as an attorney. As a recipient of the Colorado Office of Respondent Parent Counsel's Family Defender of the Year award, Erika is known for her zealous advocacy for parents.

    Erika’s aim with every client is to defuse high-conflict situations by developing the strongest solutions while protecting the rights of her clients. Erika aims to educate her clients in order to bring clarity and understanding to any complex financial or parenting situation. Erika’s work allows families the ability to achieve the best solutions, no matter how complex the circumstances.

    Erika has developed a reputation for guiding her clients through high conflict situations with a calm and reasonable approach with the goal of negotiating an advantageous settlement wherever possible, but she is also an accomplished litigator who vigorously defends her client’s interests in court.

    Erika has extensive experience litigating dependency and neglect cases. She began her career as an attorney at the Denver County Department of Human Services and went on the represent the Douglas County Department of Human Services and Elbert County Department of Human Services in dependency and neglect matters and juvenile delinquency cases. Through this experience, she is able to help clients navigate the complex child welfare system while protecting their rights.

    Erika received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver Sturm College Law and her bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago.

    During her free time, Erika enjoys skiing, cycling, and mountain biking.

      Erika Carter handled my emergency order and was extremely efficient. During a very stressful time in my life, she moved quickly, kept me informed, and made me feel supported the entire way through.

      The second part of my case was handled by Lea Ann Lyster, LLP. She took care of my mediation and every motion in between, including a change of custody, child support, sworn financial statements, and helping draft a new parenting plan to clean up older confusing orders. We were dealing with a very aggressive opposing attorney, and she handled it calmly and professionally. She never pushed her own opinions into my parenting plan unless I specifically asked for her advice, which I really appreciated.

      I was prepared to go to trial knowing LLPs can now litigate gave me a lot of confidence. You are basically getting someone with over 20 years of experience at a more affordable rate than a traditional attorney, which truly mattered to me. I even signed both Erika Carter and Lea Ann Lyster to my trial so certain parts could be divided, which helped save money. Having that option made a big difference.

      Overall, I was very happy with The Harris Law Firm. If I needed emergency advice and one of my attorneys was in mediation or at trial, there was always someone available to step in temporarily. I actually had to use that during a very scary moment in my case, and they responded right away.

      Their response time was impressive. I never waited more than 24 hours, and most of the time it was much quicker. If they were unavailable, their automatic replies clearly explained when I would hear back and who to contact if it was urgent.

      The billing department was also kind, flexible, and easy to work with. They were understanding and helpful, which meant a lot. I even received occasional check-in calls to make sure I was happy with how everything was going.
