    Emily Parrott

    Emily Parrott is a family law attorney at The Harris Law Firm in Colorado who brings a breadth of legal experience to her work. Before focusing on family law, Emily clerked for a judge with a mixed docket spanning criminal, civil, and domestic cases, worked as a public defender, served clients at a nonprofit handling disability and guardianship matters, and practiced immigration law with a focus on family-based petitions and VAWA cases for domestic violence survivors. Emily is particularly passionate about serving women and the LGBTQ+ community, and she is proud to work alongside a firm with such a longstanding commitment to LGBTQ+ family law services.

    While in college, Emily was selected to serve on a jury and found herself captivated by the experience of watching the attorneys work, which sparked a realization that a legal career was for her. That interest deepened through a freedom of speech course and a seat on her university's student government supreme court. After graduating, she spent a year working as a paralegal at a family law firm, an experience that confirmed her desire to attend law school and showed her firsthand how much the right legal support can mean to someone dealing with such difficult moments. Attorney Parrott cares deeply about people and their stories, and her primary goal as an attorney has always been to help people find their footing during stressful times.

    As a Colorado native, Emily earned her BA in English from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, graduating magna cum laude. She went on to receive her JD from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2018, where she served as Articles Editor for the Denver Law Review, received the Hartje Objective Writing Award, worked as a Research Assistant for Professor Nancy Leong, and served as a Student Attorney in the Civil Rights Clinic. The varied experiences reinforced both her commitment to her career path and her love of the research and writing that the law demands.

    Emily's approach to client work begins with a simple but meaningful commitment: letting the client lead. She understands that family law matters are among the most personal and emotionally complex situations a person can face, and she creates space for clients to share what they are going through in their own time and on their own terms. For clients who find certain topics difficult to discuss, she offers flexibility in how they communicate, whether in person, over the phone, or in writing. The result is a client experience that feels collaborative rather than clinical and a legal strategy based on a complete understanding of what each client needs.

    In her personal time, she enjoys dancing, reading, and traveling, and she treasures time spent with her wife and daughter.
